ORLAND PARK, IL — With Christmas right around the corner, an Orland Park insurance company is helping to make sure local children who might not otherwise have a bright holiday season have toys to look forward to this weekend.

Kurland Insurance Agency made a $10,000 donation to the U.S. Marines Toys For Tots, which serves Will, Grundy and Kendall counties. Toys For Tots is a not-for-profit organization that delivers unwrapped toys to children who may not otherwise receive anything for Christmas.

The $10,000 donation will support their shortage of toys, provide funding for collection boxes and supplies for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, according to a news release. The literacy program’s mission is to offer the nation's most disadvantaged children the ability to compete academically and to succeed in life by providing them direct access to resources that will enhance their ability to read and communicate effectively.

A big part of their effort includes connecting with other local businesses to facilitate drop-off and pick-up locations for collection boxes all over the south suburbs. Once the boxes have been collected, the agency delivers the toys to the Marines unit in Chicago where they are sorted before being distributed to families, the story said.
