ORLAND PARK, IL -- The Illinois Council of the American Institute of Architects has named the Orland Park Public Library and Orland Park Village Center on its “200 Great Places” list commemorating Illinois’s bicentennial.

The Orland Park Public Library,14921 S. Ravinia Ave., was lauded for “establishing a landmark of egalitarian culture, knowledge and communication while offering a welcoming community destination.” The AIA remarked on the library’s large window bays and the interior layout of spaces offering views of wooded wetlands, and monumental brick tower acting as visual anchor.

Orland Park Village Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave. designed by Ralph Johnson of Perkins and Will was acknowledged for bringing a new identity to the southwest suburban area. Comprised of a village hall, a civic center and recreation center, the AIA noted the village center’s projecting roof planes and complex, cubic volumes reminiscent of Dutch modernist Willem Dudok.
