As police were interviewing witnesses and reviewing mall security video, the shooter was shown fleeing outside the mall and leaving the area on foot in an eastward direction before officers arrived, according to Orland Park police. The suspect, Williams, was quickly identified. Police said it is not known if Williams got into a vehicle at some point during his flight from the scene.

The shooting is being described by police as an “isolated incident.” Williams was released last June from the Illinois Department of Corrections, where he had been serving a three-year sentence for robbery. His parole is set to terminate in 2020.
