Orland Park Man, 23, Took Own Life Near Park: Medical Examiner

The incident happened Thursday afternoon near Schussler Park.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Officials say a 23-year-old Orland Park man took his own life near Orland's Schussler Park Friday, prompting a death investigation by police.

The man—who Patch is not naming—died of a gunshot wound to the head, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday. His death was ruled a suicide.

The incident happened outside in a wooded area north of Schussler Park at 146th and Poplar Road. Police advised the public Thursday afternoon that a death investigation was underway near the park and that the incident was isolated with no danger to the public.

The man was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

Police remained at the scene for several hours.
