Orland Park Opts Out Of Minimum Wage Law
The village declines the Cook County ordinance that raises the minimum wage to $13 an hour by 2020.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- Orland Park has opted out of Cook County’s new minimum wage law, meaning businesses in the village won’t be forced to provide yearly raises until the the wage reaches $13 an hour in 2020. The village decided to opt out just in time for the July 1 deadline for municipalities to do so.
Orland Park also decided against implementing the county’s sick leave ordinance, according to a Daily Southtown report. The Cook County Board last year passed an ordinance requiring businesses to begin hiring the minimum wage incrementally until 2020 when it becomes $13 an hour and to offer one hour of earned sick time for every 40 hours worked.
Orland is just the latest of many suburbs to opt out of the ordinance. Before trustees made the decision, they received the results of an Orland Park Chamber of Commerce survey that indicated 73 percent of its members were against the county’s minimum wage law and 70 percent were against the sick leave ordinance.
