Orland Park Parolee Turning Self In Arrested When Cops Find Heroin: Prosecutor

Prosecutor said parolee had agreed to turn himself into police after he was seen taking merchandise at Orland Park Mariano's.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- An Orland Park man turning himself in on a felony retail theft charge was arrested when police found heroin in his pocket, prosecutors said.

Vincent Ramirez, 35, a convicted felon, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of retail theft and possession of a controlled substance.

The prosecutor said that Ramirez was seen on Sept. 18, taking $231 worth of grocery items from Mariano’s, 9504 S. 142nd St., Orland Park. Police traced Ramirez through his plate number, identifying him as the registered owner.

Orland Park police went to Ramirez’s home, where he allegedly agreed to turn himself in Oct. 3. The prosecutor said that when Ramirez went to turn himself in at the Orland Park police station, officers found heroin in his pocket.

Ramirez is currently out on parole on a 2015 felony retail theft conviction where he was sentenced to 12 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

A pre-trial report recommended Ramirez for release with supervision.

“I disagree with your assessment,” Judge Felice said.

Bail was set at $100,000, Ramirez’s next court hearing is Oct. 18 in Bridgeview.
