Orland Park Police Department Seeks Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Volunteers
The Village of Orland Park Police Department is looking for motivated individuals - ages 18 or older - to help during emergency situations.
The Village of Orland Park Police Department Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA) is looking for motivated individuals to join its ranks as ESDA volunteers. Volunteers help during emergency situations. This is an unpaid position.
“ESDA in Orland Park goes back decades,” said Trustee Dan Calandriello, chair of the village’s Public Safety Committee. “The community has had a wonderful history of residents coming forward to volunteer their time to help however they could.”
Orland Park’s ESDA volunteers perform standard Emergency Operations Center functions and provide assistance for village departments and the Orland Fire Protection District when needed.

“The police department provides training for its ESDA volunteers so they’re familiar with our protocols and are well versed in some of the situations they may encounter,” said Police Chief Tim McCarthy. “Volunteers must be able to respond during emergency and stressful situations being able to help as required.”
Applicants may be placed in situations that require extended periods of heavy physical activity under a variety of environmental conditions. ESDA volunteers volunteer under the general supervision of an ESDA senior officer.

Volunteers must be age 18 or older and be U.S. Citizens. Applicants must pass a background investigation, physical requirements and drug screening, if needed. When applying, volunteers must submit copies of their birth certificates, Illinois driver’s licenses, high school diploma or GED certificate. ESDA applicants are interviewed and must pass a physical ability test.
“The Orland Park community is filled with wonderful volunteers,” Calandriello said. “We see it with every organization – sports, scouts, at school, churches and more. We’re looking for people who enjoy helping and are willing and able to lend a hand when needed.”
Orland Park’s ESDA volunteers are trained on blood borne pathogens/PPE; CPR/AED; emergency vehicle operations; National Incident Management System; hazard materials awareness; severe weather spotting; traffic control; radio communications and standard first aid.
