On November 21, 2024, Orland School District 135 hosted a community spotlight event, illuminating the wealth of resources available to local families, especially those with English language learners (ELL). The event, sponsored by the Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC), brought together a diverse group of community organizations to connect with parents and provide essential information.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about a range of services offered by Orland Township, Arab American Family Services, Teen Bridge Center, and Moraine Valley Community College. These included:
- Healthcare and Wellness: Information on health screenings, vaccinations, and mental health resources.
- Education and Career Development: Adult English classes, computer literacy courses, and career counseling.
- Youth Programs: After-school activities, tutoring, and mentorship programs for middle and high school students.
- Family Support Services: Parent workshops, cultural events, and legal assistance.
By bringing together these organizations under one roof, the district aimed to empower families and foster a stronger sense of community. The event was a testament to the district's commitment to supporting the diverse needs of its students and their families.
