Orland Square Sears Store Slated for Closure & Re-Development
Sears at Orland Square, one of the four original anchors when the mall opened in 1976, is among stores slated for closure and re-development
ORLAND PARK, IL (January 4, 2018) -- Sears at Orland Square is among the Illinois stores slated for closure. The store was one of the original mall anchors when the Orland Park shopping center debuted in 1976.
Seritage Growth Properties owns the Sears property.
In October, Seritage presented plans for redevelopment of the 90,580 square foot upper level of the current property, along with the Sears Auto Car Center, at 21,206 square feet. The plans also include the construction of a new 49,777 square feet AMC Movie Theatre.

“The village has been working with Seritage on their redevelopment plans for the Sears property at Orland Square. Sears going dark will cost us approximately $890,000 in sales and property tax revenue annually, but Seritage’s plans will offset that, generating over $1.5 million in annual revenue to the village,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “We look forward to continuing to work with them on their re-development plans for the remaining property.”
