Palos Park Couple Deliver Smiles of Joy to Children Fighting Cancer

Treasure Chest Foundation Board of Director Herb Walker and wife Janice and family pet Sammy prepare to deliver a vanload of toys.

Herb and Janice Walker of Palos Park believe in supporting children and teens fighting cancer. Treasure Chest Foundation Board of Director Herb Walker and wife Janice along with their family service dog Sammy deliver a refurbished treasure chest and 100’s of toys to the Children’s Hospital of Bronson in Kalamazoo, Michigan to benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation.

When asked about delivering the toys and treasure chest, Herb Walker said, “This is a great charity that puts smiles on the faces of children who are fighting cancer. We are happy to help by delivering toys for a good cause.”

Treasure Chest Foundation CEO and Founder Colleen Kisel said, “This is an enormous donation as the cost of shipping has skyrocketed over the years. The Walkers will save the Treasure Chest Foundation hundreds of dollars on the cost of shipping.”

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 12,500 young cancer patients enduring more than 20,000 clinic visits each month in 18 states across the nation. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 24th anniversary of remission from the disease earlier this year.
