Parents Groups Donate Close to $160,000 to D135 In Last School Year
Two parent organizations raised money for field trips, music programs and other activities.

Thanks to generous support from two parent organizations, the Orland School District 135 accepted donations in the amount of $159,929 raised by two groups--Music Parents and Parents for Education (PFE).
The total amount is a sum of what was raised at each of the 10 school within District 135. According to Superintendent Paul Howell, similar amounts of money are raised at each school.
Howell, who meets with the two groups throughout the year, described them during Monday night's Board of Education meeting as "two of the most flawless organizations I've seen." The funding goes toward costs for assemblies, author visits and other activities during the year, including some requested by the students.

Music Parents assist with raising money for instruments, repairs and lessons. The group is present at the three junior high schools to benefit their music programs.
"In addition to the monetary support, the parents also provided time," said Howell. "I would not have expected the amount of time that we got from them. You get a little spoiled from it."
