Original Island Shrimp House To Be Featured On 'Chicago's Best'

Original Island Shrimp House's lobster, mac and cheese dish will be showcased on WGN's 'Chicago's Best' this Sunday, March 18.

PALOS PARK, IL -- Palos Park’s Original Island Shrimp House will be featured on Chicago’s Best this Sunday, March 18. The segment is set to air at 10 p.m. on WGN-TV is replayed at various times during the week on WGN and CLTV. Chicago’s Best visits reader-recommended restaurants, diners, markets and joints in search of the best grub in Chicagoland.

Original Island Shrimp House’s lobster, mac and cheese will be showcased on a special edition of Chicago’s Best focusing on the foods we loved as kids, but area updated for adult tastes.

“Customers over the last two-and-a-half years have been writing to Chicago’s Best and suggesting we be on the show for certain foods that we offer,” said owner Tim Keefer. “There was a tremendous request for our lobster mac and cheese.”

Keefer said the show’s host Elliot Bambrough visited the restaurant at 12902 S. LaGrange Road in Palos Park in February.

“You have to prepare the same dish twice,” Keefer said. “We made a lot of cheese sauce.”

Order the soon-to-be-famous lobster, mac and cheese made from Bambrough’s cheese sauce and a portion of sales will be donated to his charity of choice, One Tail At A Time, a Chicago-based animal shelter committed to lowering euthanasia rates of homeless and surrendered pets through adoption and pet rescue.

Original Island Shrimp House was named one of the Illinois's Top Ten Seafood Restaurants. The restaurant is located at 12902 South La Grange Road, Palos Park. Restaurant hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is closed Mondays.
