Overturned Semi At LaGrange, I-80 Needed Cargo Unloaded By Hand

No one was hurt in the crash Friday, and the semi was moved to the shoulder for crews to work, according to state police.

MOKENA, IL — Work crews were still unloading by hand the cargo from a semi-tractor trailer that overturned Friday afternoon on LaGrange Road, near the Interstate 80 interchange, according to the Illinois State Police. Although the accident had been moved to the shoulder and all lanes were open, traffic was still stop and go, and saw some delays Friday evening.

The accident happened around 12:58 p.m. Friday, May 4, as the semi was exiting westbound I-80 on to southbound LaGrange Road, according to police. That's when the truck tipped over on its passenger side as it was exiting, police said.

No one was hurt in the accident, and the driver of the semi refused medical treatment at the scene.

By early Friday evening, cargo was still being unloaded by hand from the overturned semi on to another vehicle. It was a task that would take some time because crews couldn't use machines to transfer the items, according to police.

"They're going to be there for a while," a state police spokesman told Patch on Friday.
