Man Suffers Graze Wound In Shooting Outside Crestwood Restaurant

Guests told police that the suspects drove up in a SUV and started shooting outside Mariscos Costa Azul during a private party, cops said.

CRESTWOOD, IL -- A man was shot Sunday evening outside a Mexican restaurant in Crestwood where a large party had apparently been taking place, police said.

Crestwood police responded to Mariscos Costa Azul, 13131 Rivercrest Drive, around 11:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired. Witnesses told police they were attending a private party inside the restaurant when some people showed up and started shooting from the parking lot. The vehicle, described as a silver or gold Honda SUV, had fled to a nearby Holiday Inn Express with a possible male gunshot victim.

The SUV was last seen heading northbound on Cicero Avenue from Cal-Sag Road occupied with at least two suspects. The passenger was described as a male Hispanic wearing a red hoodie and a mask. Police went to the Holiday Inn Express, where they found the SUV believed to have been at the scene, along with the wounded backseat passenger. The man had what appeared to be a graze wound to the head. He was treated at the scene and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The man has since been released and interviewed by police.

Officers found several shell casings on the ground outside Mariscos Costa Azul, where a large unruly crowd had gathers, police said. Police from nearby suburbs were called in to assist in crowd control. The crime scene was processed by investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, where numerous pieces of evidence were recovered. Officers interviewed and identified witnesses.

Crestwood police are reviewing video to determine if any liquor license violations occurred. Anyone with information about the party or shooting is asked to contact Det. Passaglia, at 708-926-7242.
