Moraine Valley 'Cycles For A Cause' To Send Team To Bike MS Ride

Moraine Valley's Cycle For A Cause offers six invigorating cycling classes on May 4 to raise funds to send a team to the Bike MS ride.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- The Moraine Valley Community College Health, Fitness & Recreation Center (FitRec) is hosting its second annual Cycle for a Cause featuring six hour-long, back-to-back cycling classes to raise money for the Team FitRec Bike Multiple Sclerosis (MS) rides this summer. The event is Saturday, May 4, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the fitness center in Building H on campus, 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.

Each 50-minute cycling class will be led by certified instructors. Participants can do any class they want but must register for each one separately. The cost per class is $8 for FitRec members and $12 for nonmembers. All day passes are $40 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Participants will be entered in drawings. All proceeds from the event will go toward Team FitRec’s participation in the St. Charles Tour de Farms Bike MS ride in June.

Team FitRec, which includes fitness center staff and gym members, is committed to raising $10,000 to raise awareness and find a cure for MS, especially because one teammate (a FitRec instructor) was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago.

“Cycle for a Cause is one of our team fundraisers to help reach our goal. Last year, we were able to fill the bikes and raise over $1,300 in raffles alone. We hope to raise even more this year,” said Jana Terborg, assistant director of fitness programs.
