Sandburg debaters bring home back-to-back State titles

Make history as first-ever repeat champs

The Sandburg High School Debate Team brought home its sixth State Championship this weekend. Seniors Lily Koza and Yaseen Mozaffar claimed the State Championship title, making them back-to-back State Champions, a first-ever accomplishment in debate history.

The team traveled down to University of Illinois Springfield for a challenging weekend of competition. After hundreds of teams competed five rounds of debate, the tournament was left with its own March Madness bracket and settled on the top 16 teams in each division. Sandburg’s team eliminated Evanston High School in the final round.

Sandburg also finished with five students who earned spots on the State All-State Debate Team. These students are Lily Kozak, James Hughes, Bella Wrobel, Brandon Bourret, and Viktor Milosovljevic.
