Sandburg Model United Nations hosts conference
41-schools and 650 students from across Illinois participate
Carl Sandburg High School Model United Nations (CSMUN) Club recently hosted its 14th annual conference, CSMUN XIV. The conference had been in the works since late May of last school year, giving staff the summer as well as the beginning of the school year to prepare for the big day. The conference student staff consisted of six secretariat members, 32 chairs, 45 dias, two crisis staffers, and three photographers. It also featured the club’s sponsor Adam Osmanski, and an array of parent volunteers.
With 650 delegates in attendance from 41 schools across Illinois, the conference was a success. Delegates participated in a variety of committees, ranging from The International Criminal Police Organization to Billboard Hot 100, allowing them to debate unique topics such as reducing brain drain, psychological resources for refugees, and superheroes acting on their own will.
The mission of CSMUN XIV was to remind delegates, both new and experienced, to create positive change in a burdened world. New Model UN delegates were guided through committee procedures, encouraged to participate, and ignited a love for creating resolutions to global issues, Osmanski said.
