Sandburg Scholastic Bowl Dominates At Recent Tourneys
Sandburg Scholastic Bowl sweeps conference titles, earns double championship honors.

Carl Sandburg High School is celebrating an outstanding week of competition as its Scholastic Bowl teams captured first place in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions at the final conference tournament, earning the title of Double Conference Champions.e Varsity team members include Jack Engel (11), Chloe McLaughlin (12), Yazhi Paguntalan (11), Giselle Tedera (11), Gianpiero Fazio (12), Ayaan Ghori (12), Adrian Kopec (11), Niko Diaz (12), Jamie Kenan (12), Leena Ahmad (12), and Kassie Morales (11).
Three Sandburg students also earned top individual honors as All-SWSC Leaders. Ayaan Ghori placed 1st, Gianpiero Fazio placed 4th, and Adrian Kopec placed 7th in All-Conference competition within the Southwest Suburban Conference.
The Junior Varsity team also secured a first-place finish. Team members include Ben Young (9), Mark Ruder (10), Aziz Jibawi (10), Alex Huff (10), Brady Hoenig (10), Kevin Ciulkin (9), Eleanor Pruitt (9), Willow Bhojraj (10), AJ Ajayi (9), Ainslee Beaty (9), Aya Kishta (10), and Yasmin Abozir (10).

In addition to their conference success, Sandburg earned a second-place finish at the Masonic Sectional competition this past weekend. Representing Sandburg at Sectionals were Ayaan Ghori, Niko Diaz, Chloe McLaughlin, Adrian Kopec, Brady Hoenig, Jack Engel, Gianpiero Fazio, Yazhi Paguntalan, and Rhianna Santiago.
“Our teams worked incredibly hard and truly set the tone for our season,” said sponsor Olivia Parker. “We are so proud of their preparation, teamwork, and determination.”
