State Panel Approves University of Chicago Medical Center in Orland Park
Despite concerns from neighboring clinics and medical offices, the Health Facilities and Review Board agreed to the need for the center.

It’s a go for the proposed University of Chicago $67 million outpatient medical center in Orland Park, after the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the plan Wednesday afternoon.
The vote was unanimous among the six board members in attendance at the meeting.
“It’s a simple issue. A lot of sick people and parents of sick people don’t want to spend an hour and a half on the Dan Ryan,” said review board member Philip Bradley, as quoted in the Chicago Tribune.

The 120,000-square-foot medical facility at 143rd Street and LaGrange Road is planned to offer specialized treatment in radiation oncology, with 80 exam rooms for other medical specialties, including orthopedics, women’s health, pediatrics, cardiology and surgical consulting, Chicago Tribune reports.
With the approval acquired, the Village of Orland Park will now move forward with negotiating a redevelopment agreement for the property. The university anticipated breaking ground in the fall, with completion tentatively expected by mid-2016.
