Third Thursday and Mural Unveiling at Orland Park Crossing

Edwards Realty Company, headquartered in Orland Park, IL, recently launched a contest for artists to compete for a chance to win $1,000 and have their artwork produced in large format and displayed prominently at Orland Park Crossing. The contest received over 60 artist submissions from a wide range of artists.

The winning artist, Melanie Vazquez, was selected for her brightly colored, Mexican-American inspired artwork. The piece was selected for its inviting and “instagrammable” nature. Melanie is a muralist based in Posen, Illinois. Her work explores themes of belonging, identity, and nostalgia within Mexican-American culture. She often uses vibrant colors, symbolism, personal experiences, and Mexican imagery in hopes of connecting with viewers. Melanie works to “practice the preservation of Mexican identity, reflection, appreciation and compassion.” She hopes that her work encourages viewers to do the same.

Orland Park Crossing welcomes more than 2 million visitors each year, which will give the winning artist visibility and recognition by a wide and diverse audience.

On Thursday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m., the Mayor of the Village of Orland Park will join the owners of the center and the artist for the unveiling of her artwork at the Center’s “Third Thursday” event, featuring live entertainment, a food truck, special store promotions and more.
