Treasure Chest Foundation Receives New Toys from Maxfield's Restaurant in Lombard

The customers at Maxfield’s Family Restaurant in Lombard are giving to children and teens fighting cancer. Maxfield’s Restaurant customers recently collected more than 100 toys and $105 in gift cards to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF).

Maxfield’s Restaurant is Lombards staple family restaurant. Since opening in 2002, Maxfield’s has been the place where the community of Lombard has been starting their day. Maxfield’s Restaurant has an extensive menu and is known for their famous oven baked pancakes and quality service.

Maxfield’s Toy Drive Chairwoman Jan Patocka said, “People were very generous with quantity and quality of toys this year. Ms. Kisel, Founder of the Treasure Chest Foundation added, “The POTCF is especially grateful to Maxfield’s Restaurant and their generous customers for their enormous donation of toys. We are blessed to have the support of the Maxfield’s Family Restaurant.”

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 9,300 young cancer patients each month. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 22nd anniversary of remission from the disease in 2015.
