Village Of Orland Park To Host Free Recycling, Document Shredding, Electronic And Drug Take-Back Event

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Village of Orland Park, in collaboration with local and regional officials, invites residents to safely dispose of documents, electronics and prescription medications at the free Recycling, Shredding, Drug and Electronic Take-Back Event.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon (or until load capacity is met) on Friday, Oct. 9, at Orland Square Mall, 288 Orland Square Dr., on the upper level near Texas de Brazil.

Orland Park Mayor Jim Dodge, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Vice President Theresa Flynn, and Commissioners Yumeka Brown and Beth McElroy Kirkwood are hosting the event to promote safe disposal of sensitive documents, waste management and environmental sustainability.

"Our residents made it clear after July’s cleanup that they wanted more opportunities to safely recycle electronics, dispose of medications and shred sensitive documents," said Mayor Jim Dodge. "We’re glad to partner with our regional neighbors to bring these essential services directly to our community."

Accepted electronic items include laptops, desktops, cables, calculators, cellphones, general computer hardware, fax machines, printers and televisions. There is a limit of one television per household.

Prescription medications must remain in their original containers. Hypodermic needles and liquid medications will not be accepted.

Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as services are available until noon or until truck capacities are filled.
