Orland Park police said China Beck walked out of the mall store with the UGG boots on after leaving her shoes in their box.

ORLAND PARK, IL — A Chicago woman faces a retail theft charge after police in Orland Park say she walked out of an Orland Park Place store wearing a pair of UGG boots without paying for them.

Police were called to the Nordstrom Rack at 140 Orland Park Place at 5:02 p.m. on Oct. 11 and were told by loss prevention that China Beck, 21 had tried on the pair of tan boots and put the shoes she was wearing in the box and back on the shelf before leaving the store without paying.

Loss prevention stopped her once outside the store and took her back to the office in the store, where police talked to her after they arrived.

Beck told police she saw the loss prevention employee watching her closely and that if he was going to watch her that closely that she was definitely going to take something, according to an Orland Park police report.

Police say Beck can contest the charge in court, otherwise she'll be ordered to pay a $250 fine. She has also received a two-year ban from Nordstrom for the incident, police said.
