11 Oswego Businesses Didn't Card Minors Trying To Buy Alcohol, Tobacco: Police

OSWEGO, IL — Eleven businesses failed to card minors attempting to buy alcohol and tobacco in Oswego police's recent compliance check, officials said.

Officers conducted compliance checks over the weekend at 43 establishments across the village. Ten alcohol shops didn't card and were issued 20 citations for selling liquor to a minor — both the business and the employee received citations, according to a news release.

One tobacco establishment was also issued two ordinance violations for selling tobacco to a minor.

The checks are part of the Oswego Police Department's effort to ensure liquor and tobacco license holders "operate responsibly and help prevent underage usage," officials said. Compliance checks happen throughout the year.

"Thank you to those local businesses that do follow the law and help keep our community safe and responsible," police wrote in the release.
