2019 Toys For Tots 'A Huge Success:' Oswego Fire Department

This year over 7500 toys and 100 bikes were collected for children in need, Oswego Fire Protection District officials said.

From Oswego Fire Department: On December 13th the annual Toys for Tots breakfast was held at Station One. This year marked the 11th anniversary of working to collect toys for local families in need. Working side by side with all five School District 308 Jr. High Schools, the Oswego Kiwanis Club and the United States Marine Corps collected and distributed toys to children within Kendall County.

Fifteen lucky students from each school won the right to be an Elf for the day. The 75 elves along with their family and friends and school staff were met at each school by firefighters to pick up the toys. All the toys were then brought to the fire station where the elves worked diligently to separate the toys and prepare them for distribution.

Off-duty firefighters prepared a large breakfast for everyone consisting of pancakes, eggs, sausage, Canadian bacon, toast, milk, OJ and even a few donuts. This year we fed over 350 folks at the event, where fun was had by all for a worthy cause.

The Oswego Fire Protection District appreciates the outpouring of support from the community. "Thank You" to Midas and Napa for the 40 Razor Scooters. We would especially like to recognize our local Meijer store- the store donated $5,000 to the program this year. This amazing donation was used to purchase many of the bicycles in this year's toy drive.
This year's event collected 7650 toys and 100 bikes. New this year helping distribute the toys was the Oswego Kiwanis Club, they did a fantastic job of getting the toys to those in need within our community. Over 1200 kids benefited from this year's event

This program has grown by leaps and bounds, starting in 2008 with 295 toys collected. Since then, the program has taken on a life of its own and we are able to take care of hundreds of families in need. This couldn't be done without the partnerships we have formed with School District 308 Jr. High Schools and those in our community. Please contact us for any picture request.
