37 Complaints Reported: KCSO Annual Internal Investigations Analysis
Of the reports from both the operations and corrections divisions, about 78% were initiated internally and 22% were generated externally.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the 2021 Annual Administrative Internal Investigations Analysis and Reports for both the Operations and Corrections Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. It is the policy of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office to conduct these audits yearly, evaluate our performance, and ensure we are accountable to the citizens we are sworn to serve. These investigations may be generated internally or externally by inmates or the public. Of the 37 reports generated across both divisions, approximately 78% were initiated internally and 22% were generated externally. The Sheriff’s Office will accept complaints anonymously and has been doing so since our Citizen Complaint policy was implemented in June of 2004.
The reports conclude that members of the Operations Division were involved in approximately 21,000 incidents in which contact with the public was made. Of those 21,000 public contacts, seven (7) or approximately 0.10% resulted in public complaints. Members of the Corrections Division processed approximately 1,919 inmates into the Kendall County Jail which had an average daily population of 146 inmates. Corrections staff is in constant contact with the daily population of inmates housed in the jail as well as members of the public which resulted in zero public complaints and one complaint initiated by an inmate.
