Alleged Thief Crashes into Light Pole After Police Pursuit
The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, but the driver was arrested a short time later

An 18-year-old man pursued by police crashed his vehicle into a light pole early Wednesday morning.
At around 12:25 a.m. Oswego police were sent to a retail theft in progress. While traveling to the scene, an officer saw the offending vehicle traveling westbound on Rt. 34.
“When the driver saw the police presence he immediately accelerated and lost control of his vehicle,” police said.

The vehicle then crashed into a light pole at Rt. 34 and Heritage.
The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot and it was determined that the vehicle was stolen. The driver of the vehicle was arrested a short time later.

The 18-year-old driver, identified at Esaiah M. Escamilla, of the 2000 block of Best Place in Aurora, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, theft, retail theft, possession of alcohol by a minor, leaving the scene of an accident and no valid driver’s license.
Police are investigating to determine the identities of the other occupants.
