OSWEGO, IL — HomeGoods is on its way to opening its first store in Oswego, according to village documents.
The home furnishing chain is looking to construct a 25,000-square-foot building at 410 Fifth St., within the 9-acre Prairie Market East shopping center helmed by Aldi and PetSmart. The property is currently vacant.
The agenda for Tuesday night's Village Board meeting includes the approval of an ordinance granting a major amendment to the Prairie Market East planned unit development to allow for the building's development and a wall sign with 72-inch-tall letters, exceeding the previously established 48-inch height allotment.
In 2007, the Village Board approved a final planned unit development for Prairie Market East that allowed for an almost 17,000-square-foot commercial building between Aldi and PetSmart — the space HomeGoods is eyeing.
"While the depth of the tenant space is increasing, it will be no closer to the neighboring residential development as any other tenants in Prairie Market East," village staff wrote in a memo. "Moreover, the proposed commercial use is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan, and the proposed site plan and architecture match the existing character and design of Prairie Market East."
At its April 9 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the ordinance to be considered Tuesday by trustees.
