OSWEGO, IL — Police say the victim fired gunshots at an armed robbery suspect before starting a pursuit that ended when both vehicles crashed on Orchard Road near I-88.
A 22-year-old DeKalb man is now facing felony charges in the incident.
According to Oswego police, officers responded to a report of shots fired at 3:24 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Concord Drive South. While they were investigating, officers learned that a driver involved in a crash in Aurora had reported being robbed at gunpoint in Oswego.
Police say the victim told officers he was sitting in his vehicle outside his house when he was approached by a suspect who was armed with a handgun and robbed him.
The victim said he retrieved a gun from his home and was chasing after the suspect when the suspect pointed a gun at him, prompting the victim to fire multiple gunshots, according to a news release.
The suspect fled in a vehicle, and the victim went back to his own vehicle and followed the suspect north on Orchard Road until both vehicles crashed near Orchard and I-88, according to Oswego police.
Two people fled from the suspect's vehicle, police said. One suspect was found by Kane County sheriff's deputies and turned over to Oswego police, the news release said.
The second suspect had not been found as of late Saturday night. During the investigation, police say officers closed part of Tuscany Trail from Orchard Road to Concord Drive South.
Police said 22-year-old Timothy Rodgers of the 1000 block of Lincoln Highway in DeKalb faces charges of armed robbery and armed violence, both felonies.
He is due in court Monday, according to police, who said additional charges may be pending.
Police continue to search for the second suspect and are asking anyone with information to call 630-551-7300. Tips can also be shared with Kendall Crime Stoppers at 630-553-5999. Callers remain anonymous, and tips leading to arrests are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
The Oswego Police Department thanked the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb Police Department, and Aurora Police Department for their assistance.
"This press release is a summary of the facts known at this time," Oswego police said Saturday night. "As this incident is still being investigated, the information contained in the news release is subject to change. Additional details will be released as they become available."
