OSWEGO, IL — Authorities on Monday announced additional charges against a man involved in an armed robbery over the weekend in Oswego, who was then chased by his victim, who fired a gun, before the pursuit ended in a crash.
Timothy J. Rodgers, 22, of DeKalb, is now charged with aggravated robbery, robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in addition to previous charges of armed robbery and armed violence, police said.
He appeared for a detention hearing on Monday, where he was ordered to remain in custody pending further court proceedings, according to police, who said his next appearance is set for May 22.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 3:24 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Concord Drive South, police said. While they were investigating, officers learned that a driver involved in a crash in Aurora had reported being robbed at gunpoint in Oswego.
The victim told officers he was sitting in his vehicle outside his house when he was approached by a suspect who was armed with a handgun and robbed him, according to police.
The victim said he retrieved a gun from his home and was chasing after the suspect when the suspect pointed a gun at him, prompting the victim to fire multiple gunshots, authorities said.
The suspect fled in a vehicle, and the victim went back to his own vehicle and followed the suspect north on Orchard Road until both vehicles crashed near Orchard Road and Interstate 88, according to police.
Two people fled from the suspect's vehicle, police said. One was found by Kane County sheriff's deputies and turned over to Oswego police, while the other remained outstanding Monday, according to authorities.
