OSWEGO, IL — A new principal will take the helm of Hunt Club Elementary School this summer, in time for the 2026-27 school year.
The Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education approved the appointment of Ericka Garza at its April 27 meeting. She will begin her new role July 1.
"Ms. Garza brings a distinguished record of educational leadership, a deep commitment to serving diverse communities, and a proven ability to build strong school cultures rooted in belonging and academic excellence," Chief Communications Officer Theresa Komitas said in a news release.
Garza comes to Oswego from Dixmoor, where she has served as principal of Rosa Parks Middle School. There, she has transformed school culture, improved attendance and behavior outcomes, and exceeded academic growth targets, according to District 308 officials.
Garza began her career as an English learner teacher, supporting students in grades four through eight through a Transitional Bilingual Education Program.
At the start of her career, Garza worked as an English Learner teacher and later as an EL program coordinator. From 2017 to 2022, she worked as the principal of Mark Twain Primary School in Kankakee, a dual-language magnet school.
"Throughout the interview process, Ms. Garza distinguished herself as a results-oriented leader with exceptional strengths in serving diverse communities, culture building, instructional leadership, and building the capacity of school leadership teams," Executive Director of Schools Tammie Harmon said in a statement. "Her systems-thinking approach and rich background in community engagement make her an excellent choice to lead Hunt Club Elementary School."
