Tornado Warning Issued In Kendall County

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — A tornado warning has been issued in Kendall County Tuesday morning as a fast-moving cluster of severe storms moves across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

At about 10:10 a.m., the weather service detected severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and extensive straight-line wind damage near Yorkville. The system was moving east at about 55 mph.

The tornado warning is in effect until 11 a.m. in Kendall County.

The area is also under a severe storm watch until 2 p.m. Tuesday. The weather service said the storms could bring damaging wind gusts as high as 80 mph in addition to torrential downpours, which cause flash flooding of roads, low-lying areas, fields and basements.

Oswego police provided the following tips in light of the severe weather:

• Move to a basement or the lowest level of your home or building
• Stay away from windows and exterior walls
• Shelter in a small interior room, hallway or bathroom
• If outside or in a vehicle, seek sturdy shelter immediately, avoid large trees
• Keep phones charged and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Do not try to outrun a tornado in heavy traffic or stop under an overpass
