Tornado Confirmed To Hit Oswego: NWS

OSWEGO, IL — A tornado was confirmed to have landed in Oswego during Tuesday's severe storms, the National Weather Service said.

The EF-0 tornado in Oswego was one of six reported in Illinois Tuesday.

These other tornados were confirmed:

• Wilmington: EF-1 (peak winds around 90 mph)
• Mokena to Tinley Park: EF-1 (peak winds around 95 mph)
• Orland Park to Munster: EF-1
• Homewood: EF-1
• Monee to St. John: EF-2 (peak winds around 115 mph)

Widespread destructive straight-line wind damage also occurred throughout southern Cook, eastern Will, much of Lake (IN), Porter, and northern Newton and Jasper counties.

Indications are that peak winds were likely near 100 mph across parts of southern Cook, eastern Will, and into Lake and Porter counties, NWS said.

A flood watch went in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning as localized rainfall rates may exceed two inches per hour in several counties, including Kendall. Some parts of the area have already received 2 to 4 inches of rain over the past few days, according to the weather service.

The weather service said additional waves of storms are likely through the weekend for northern Illinois. In Kendall County, Friday will have a high of 80 degrees, Saturday a high of 82 and Sunday a high of 84.
