Oswego Teen Punches Stranger In Unprovoked Attack: Police

AURORA, IL — An Oswego teenager faces multiple charges after he attacked a stranger Saturday morning in Aurora, according to police, who described the incident as an "apparently unprovoked confrontation."

Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. after 18-year-old Josiah Evans approached a man sitting in a vehicle in the 700 block of South River Street, police said. The teen punched the man and threatened to shoot and stab him, despite the victim not knowing the teen, according to police, who said the victim declined medical attention.

Officers located Evans near South River Street and Rathbone Avenue, police said, adding that during their investigation, Evans — a confirmed gang member — tried to approach and threaten the victim again before physically confronting an officer.

The teen was taken into custody, and was charged with aggravated battery in a public way and aggravated battery to a peace officer, both felonies, according to police, who said that Evans remained in custody and his next court date was set for Oct. 14.

Three days before Saturday's incident, Evans was arrested following an investigation of vehicle burglaries in the area of South LaSalle and Bluff streets, during which officers found a wallet taken from an unlocked vehicle, police said. Evans was charged with vehicle burglary, a felony, in connection with that investigation, according to police.
