"Eggstreme" Effort by Oswego East Rocket Team
Oswego East Rocket Team qualifies for TARC national finals being held May 11th in Washington DC.
The Oswego East High School team has qualified a team to compete in the Team America Rocketry Challenge National Fly-Off on May 11.
Four freshman and sophomore, Mason Blommaert, Michael Elliott, Jacob Kennedy, David Riggio and Joseph Schramek teamed up to design, construct, test, and successfully launch a model rocket carrying a raw egg to an altitude of 750 feet and recover it safely — without cracking the egg — in order to qualify.
Other contest requirements that challenged the team included having flight duration between 48-50 seconds; a rocket diameter no less than 60 millimeters; recovery by a 15-inch diameter parachute; a liftoff weight of no more than 650 grams and the egg had to “lay on its back”. In other words, the egg had to be on its side.

The team is made up entirely of first year members and they are very excited to be one of only four teams from Illinois to qualified. The other Illinois teams include two teams from Nequa Valley HS in Naperville, IL and the team from St. Bede HS in Peru, IL.
