Hip Replacement
I am having a total hip replacement and want to share my experiences.
I will be getting a total hip replacement on my right hip on Tuesday, July 24 2012. Hopefully, I will be able to share my experiences-be it good or bad here on Oswego Patch. This first post focuses on why, being only 36 years old, I need a total hip replacement. When I was in junior high school, I was very short due to what is called Turner Syndrome. I had to take growth hormone to help me grow to a decent 5'0. My sophomore year, I felt something pop in my hip while I was on vacation. Upon returning home, I visited my doctor who immediately told me that I had (now this is a big word) a slipped epiphisis. Basically, what that means is that the growth plate in my right hip had slipped. I then had surgery to pin the growth plate back into position and two years later had the pins removed. Seven years later, I developed arthritis in that same hip joint because I had lost a lot of cartilage due to those two surgeries. I tried to ignore it, but when the pain got too bad, I saw a rheumatologist. Nothing was easing the pain so finally, a month ago I decided that enough is enough and opted to have a THR. So, my next post will be after surgery and I will let everyone know how everything went. Till next time.
