I'm a Choir Parent and Proud of It!

The Fine Arts programs are an integral part of the students life in our school district. OEHS Choirs are the living proof!

Oswego East High School has a lot of hidden gems. Our students succeed in a variety of disciplines and for the most part it goes unnoticed. As a parent whose children have found their place in the fine arts, I can't have enough praise for OE's music department. Earlier this week the Choir Spring Concert showcased once again the talent of our students and the dedication of their director, Mr. Peter Barsch, and their accompanist, Mrs. Claire Chenoweth to develop such talents. My congratulations to all the students of the Oswego East Choral Department: Voice Activated, Treble Choir, Concert Choir, Spotlight, Women's Choir and A Capella Choir for a fantastic performance!

As an OEHS choir parent I couldn't be more proud! All of the students showed a great sense of discipline and dedication. Now, (as an A Capella parent this may sound biased...) the A Capella Honors Concert is something to talk about. This choir performed 11 songs straight with unparalleled quality. The variety of genres and arrangements and the intensity of the performance provided the perfect demonstration of their abilities.

In the following statement I may be preaching to the choir (no pun intended... maybe a little). The Fine Arts programs are an integral part of the students life in our school district, as do the many fantastic programs, groups and organizations they can participate of. I have heard more than once, from students and parents, how their participation in this activities has been instrumental in their growth as students and members of the community. The discipline and hard work required to perform (no matter on what kind of stage), translates to all aspects of their lives making it an integral part of their education. Since for the majority of this activities participation is subject to maintaining a good standing as a student, their desire to be involved motivates them to do better in school. That's what I call a win-win situation!

Students, keep up the good work. Parents, keep supporting your children. School District, keep the funds coming...

Now, I invite you to watch the video included with this article of the OEHS A Capella Choir performing "The Argument". This piece not only demonstrates our students tremendous talent but it is hilarious as well! (As a proud mom I couldn't help zooming in for a moment to my child and her fellow Alto singers. You understand right?) Enjoy!
