Larry "The Flag Man"

Here's another inspirational person you should know. What a phenomenal testament to one man's dedication.

Every day we learn something new... and recently I received an email (have I told you how much I love the internet?) about another inspirational American.  A quiet guy, Larry Eckhardt, from Little York, Illinois has attended the funerals of 86 of our fallen soldiers.  Sometimes he travels 600 miles to attend one  But, and here's the incredible part, he takes along with him over 2,200 American flags.

What does he do with those 2' x 3' flags on tall poles?  He lines the route of the motorcade that will bring a fallen soldier home for the final time.  Larry puts out a call for volunteers to help set-up the flags and people line the streets waiting for him to arrive with the truck and trailer laden with these beautiful symbols.

Recently, he had to turn down two requests to bring the flags for several soldier's funerals.  Why?  Because on September 29th he underwent triple by-pass surgery.  He's on the mend now, but it's going to be awhile before he's able to get back into the full swing of his tremendously patriotic mission.

Okay, so now some of you have tears in your eyes and thinking how great that is and how inspirational.  You're motivated and you want to do something.  First, please send a card or letter to Larry to thank him for his mission to honor them one final time before being buried.  He spends his own money on gas and flags, and through donations too.

Larry's address is:   Larry "The Flag Man" ,   323 S. Broadway, Apt. 1S, Little York, IL  61462-9788.

I'm trying my best to offer you many ideas and inspirational stories in hopes of touching a few hearts and helping many understand the power of compassion and patriotism.   It takes many forms and touches lives in many ways.  Especially during this holiday season I want to help us all remember "the reason for the season" by encouraging us to give of ourselves.

If you have suggestions for other ways to reach out to the families of these soldiers during the holiday season I'd love to hear them.  We're a community and through our sharing of ideas we can all find a way to give back.

As always............live an inspired and patriotic life!
