Orchard @ Mill Street Station
Oswego's Mill Street station low income project approved!!! HELP!!!
I am regretfully writing in regards to Oswego's Mill Street Station Developers receiving federal tax credit. I was present at the village meeting last summer and witnessed many people sharing strong objections to this "project." This land was originally approved for town homes like the few that are currently there. Howeverdue to the economy, the project was not completed. Apparantly last summer Ryan Companies and Jim Bergman, project developers, decided "income restricted apartments" would be a nice way to complete this weed infested area! I actually heard people say " They'd rather have their weeds!" and I too must agree to that! The village declined to send the letter of recommendation needed for them to receive the "Affordable Workforce Housing Tax Credit." We were then told at the meeting that without this "letter" from the Village of Oswego that this project would NOT go forward!!!! As I said, there were many people present that opposed this, and were very angry to hear that an area such as Gates Creek with above average homes should share their unoccupied space with "low income apartments!" They are calling it "affordable housing" but let's not joke around as this is not a joke!! I live in that area and am not opposed to development, but not apartments! This will impact our schools, raise our already ridiculous taxes, and unfortunately ultimately change this whole area- not for the good!!! I am appalled that this project is going forward! The article I read said they are making upgrades to the materials being used in the apartment interiors. That doesn't change the outcome of the people who will rent these as there's a $55,000.00 salary cap on the family. The real joke is they "say" they want "professional people" in there..last time I checked teachers, etc. made a bit more then that, especially with a family! Therefore we all know what we'll have as renters that qualify in that salary margin! I am not a wealthy person... but I have values and I feel that like most of you you're living in this area for a specific look or reason...This will change everything as we know it now! I am disgusted with the Village of Oswego also for keeping this so hush-hush too! They have been truly 'sneaky' about this from the beginning! They also say "They cannot prevent the developers from moving forward with this project OR dictate whether a housing unit is built for rental or ownership!!" How can this be??? Also this credit was received Oct. 19??? Again how and why is this being so hush-hush? This will cause havic on everyone in Oswego!!! I will be getting a for sale sign, but until it sells, I guess more locks and a gun will be in order! Thanx to all involved in this for forever ruining my Oswego!
