February 10- 16 is Feeding Tube Awareness Week. The Mission behind Feeding Tube Awareness is to promote the positive benefits of feeding tubes as a life saving medical intervention.
Attached is a video put together to share some details, and highlight the theme for 2013 "You're not alone". This week serves to remind families, individuals and communities that support and resources are available. If you know someone with a feeding tube, please share the video with them, or direct them to the Feeding Tube Awareness Foundation to access information and support resources. In addition, educational material is available for family members, schools and other instutions that may have questions, or may be looking to share information about life with a feeding tube.
Our son Kyle was born on December 30, 2003, weighing 1lb 1oz at birth. Over the past nine years, he has overcome a number of challenges. Through the direction of his medical team, Kyle has been receiving his nutrition and medication by way of a g-tube, which ultimately enables him to achieve new goals every day. Now at age 9, he weighs in at a 81lbs, and stands tall at 4'8".

We continue to work with Kyle on his long term, life goal of being able to drink his formulated nutrition milk and take his medication without the support of a tube. In the meantime, we remain optimistic and thankful for the support his g-tube provides, as it's enabled him not just to survive, but thrive. We are not alone.
Throughout the area there are a many families with a loved one facing partial or full feeding tube dependancy for a variety of medical needs. I encourage you to share your stories and lives with us in the comments section below. Thank you.
