Oswego, Ill. (January 12, 2016) — The Oswego Transportation Association (OTA) collected more than 200 items through its Winter Drive for School District 308 students attending Brokaw Early Learning Center.

From November 30 through December 15, OTA, in partnership with School District 308’s Transportation Department, collected winter clothing items such as snow pants, coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and earmuffs for Brokaw preschoolers. For the duration of the two-week drive, items were collected on District 308 school buses and at the district’s Transportation Center.

Many winter drives are geared toward elementary schools, which leaves out preschoolers, according to OTA Secretary Meagan Waycaster, who has taken leadership of the event the past few years.

“Many students, particularly the very young ones, cannot keep track of their own items, or come from families that cannot afford all the essentials,” Waycaster said. “We decided this year that our efforts were best served donating to the Brokaw Early Learning Center.”

The Oswego Transportation Association is part of the National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association. Its primary goal as a labor union is to provide its members a fair work environment.
