UPDATED: Car Driven Through Douglas Road Nail Salon

An 87-year-old Montgomery woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, according to Oswego police.

Oswego police are investigating what caused an elderly woman to driver her car through the front window of salon at about 11 a.m. Monday.

No one was hurt in the incident in which an 87-year-old Montgomery woman drove her car over the curb at the business at 1764 Douglas Road at 10:55 a.m. and shattered a large window, police said.

Police said the woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. The car was removed and the business secured by 11:20 a.m., though shards of glass still littered the front sidewalk.

Jessica Stachelski said she was walking into Massage Envy next door at about 11 a.m. when she saw the woman crash through the window.

“She looked like she was trying to park and all of a sudden she just floored it," Stachelski said. “I just looked around and thought ‘Was I the only one who just saw that?’”

Stachelski said she ran into the shop to make sure the woman wasn’t hurt, and found the salon was full of people.

One of those people inside the shop was Janet Kean, who was having a manicure in the front of the shop. She said the accident could have been much worse.

“If someone would have been standing there they’d be dead,” Kean said.

Kean said there were six or seven customers in the salon at the time and the car also damaged the wall to the Sears Appliance store next door.
