Coroner Reportedly Mocked Dead Woman's Body Parts

A Freedom of Information Act request seeking the recording was denied by Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy.

A recording reportedly shows Kendall County Coroner Ken Toftoy mocking the body parts of a dead woman.

According to a report from WSPY News citing anonymous sources, Toftoy can allegedly be heard, along with others, mocking the body of a deceased woman while he and others were in the lobby of the coroner’s office. The woman was in the custody of the coroner at the time, according to the report.

A Freedom of Information Act requesting the audio-video surveillance of the lobby was denied Feb. 4 by Toftoy, according to the article.

“The Coroner cited a current investigation, which was triggered by the WSPY News FOIA request,” the article said.

Copies of the surveillance video were reportedly distributed to some people, but were edited.

“Some of the individuals who have received the copies of the recording now question the integrity of the recordings they were given, as the recordings appear to have been edited, with scenes jumping abruptly and conversations ending in the middle of sentences,” WSPY reported.

According to a Kendall County Circuit Court complaint obtained by Patch, WSPY requested an electronic copy of “all of the audio and video recorded from the closed circuit monitoring equipment and system(s) used in the lobby reception area, the Main Entrance and the Sally Port Entrance of the Kendall County Coroner’s Office between June 1, 2015 and August 31, 2015.”

The complaint requests that Toftoy be enjoined from withholding public records.

A court date has been set for 9 a.m. May 9.
