District 308 Professional Development and Training Director Hired as Chief Academic Officer in Wisconsin

Oswego, Ill. (January 21, 2016) Dr. Kellie Sanders will be leaving her role as director for professional development and training for Community Unit School District 308 to become chief academic officer at the School District of New Berlin in Wisconsin.

Sanders began her position at District 308 July 1, 2013. The School District of New Berlin Board of Education approved the hiring of Sanders on Monday, January 11. The School District 308 Board of Education is set to act on her resignation Monday, February 8.

Superintendent of Schools for School District 308 Dr. Matthew Wendt said Sanders performed at a very high level while serving District 308, noting that the move is a promotion for her.

“Dr. Sanders has served School District 308 extremely well. Her leadership and direction have been paramount in introducing and cultivating the district’s current professional development and training programming,” said Wendt. “The district, our teachers, and staff have received state and national acclaim and notoriety, and the district’s professional development has played a part in that success. I am proud of her, her efforts, and all she has offered to the school district.”

Sanders said she has enjoyed working with School District 308 and is proud of all that has been accomplished during her tenure.

“It has been an exceptional experience to work with so many student-centered people while serving School District 308,” Sanders said. “The collaborative work that we have accomplished in creating a professional development plan aligned to the strategic plan, implementing a refurbished mentoring program, and providing practical adult learning experiences has been extremely rewarding.”

During her time at District 308, Sanders played a role in several successful projects including: Creating and utilizing District 308’s professional development website, working with the Mentoring Committee to reorganize the teacher mentoring program, planning for and implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLC) across the district, participating in creating the Roadmap to 2020 (strategic plan), and creating a professional development plan that aligns with the strategic plan.

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Judith Minor said Sanders has been a great leader for the Teaching and Learning team and the district’s teachers and staff.

“Her knowledge and experience with strategic planning, PLC implementation, leadership development, and teacher mentoring provided a strong foundation for professional development for our staff,” Minor said. “She has been an important member of the Teaching and Learning team and will be missed.”

Wendt said the district has already begun searching for a new director for professional development and training.

“School District 308 has excellent administrators and leaders, and those individuals will increasingly be recruited by other school districts. It is no surprise other systems desire quality leadership and often find that quality in our own people,” said Wendt. “I can assure the faculty and staff that the next director for professional development and training will be another tremendous person and leader.”
