ECO Earth Day Extravaganza Planned In Oswego

Get rid of electronics, prescription drugs, batteries, glasses and more or purchase rain barrels during the April 21 event.

OSWEGO, IL — Do you have electronics, Styrofoam, prescription drugs, or other tricky-to-recycle items stockpiled in your house? Celebrate your dedication to the environment by recycling them with Environmentally Conscious Oswego, the Village of Oswego’s ECO Commission, at their Earth Day Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Demonstrations

In addition to recycling all kinds of items, this free, family-friendly event will feature demonstrations on sustainable practices you can adopt in your home or support in the local community. Meet a beekeeper and see how honey is made, experiment with composting and harvesting rainwater, and learn about responsible best practices in keeping backyard chickens.

Rain Barrels

The Village of Oswego, in partnership with The Conservation Foundation, is selling rain barrels at about half their retail price for Village residents.

Rain barrels are large containers that capture storm water from your roof that would otherwise be lost as runoff. The water can be used to water gardens and lawns, saving precious water supplies and reducing your water bill. Free of minerals, rain water is often better for outdoor plants than tap water.

Rain barrels are available for $55 to $60 depending on color. To pick up your rain barrel for free at the Earth Day Recycling Extravaganza, order by Tuesday, April 17, directly from Upcycle Products at http://www.upcycle-products.com/oswegoil.html. Residents may also have barrels delivered to their homes any time for an additional $5.

The Earth Day Recycling Extravaganza will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, April 21, at Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill, Oswego. Volunteers are needed. For more information about this event, including volunteering, or other opportunities to get involved with sustainability in Oswego, contact the ECO Commission at eco@oswegoil.org.
