Kate Friedman Lano, a graduate of Oswego High School, will present a benefit violin concert at the Oswego Presbyterian Church August 19, 3:00 p.m. Beilin Han will serve as accompanist.
Works by Mozart, Beethoven and Sibelius will be performed. A reception will follow the the recital. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and will be available at the door. All proceeds will be donated to the Fine Arts Building project at Cottey College in Nevada, MO.
Lano began her violin studies at age 3. Her miniature violins of childhood gave way to the intrument she performs with today as she maintains an active orchestral, chamber music and teaching career. She served as concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony and Elgin Symphony. Lano has appeared on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Symphony Center MusicNOW concert series.

Lano has performed at music festivals throughout the U.S. including Tanglewood Music Center Festival where she was concertmaster, New York String Seminar at Carnegie Hall and Mozarteum Sommerakademie in Austria. She has been selected for master classes with YoYo Ma and Pinchas Zukerman and has been coached by members of the Julliard, Guarneri, Berntano, Pacifica, Vermeer and Ying String Quartets
Lano received her Bachelor of Music with distinction from Indiana University and Master of Music with Honors and Performer Certificate from DePaul University under the tutelage of Ilya Kaller.

Beilin Han was born in Shanghai, China, and began her piano studies at 3. Han studied at music conservatories in China and received a Master of Music from the University of Kansas and a Professional Diploma from Roosevelt University. She has received numerous international prizes in piano competitions and is currently a staff pianist at Roosevelt University and DePaul University.
The performance is sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter NY, Oswego. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic education organization supporting projects that help women. These projects include a grant program helping women returning to school, a loan fund for college expenses, helping with housing costs for senior women in need, scholarships for post graduate study, and owning and operating a college for women in Nevada, MO., Cottey College.
Cottey is currently undergoing a campaign to expand degree programs offered, to expand the library, and to build a new Fine Arts Building.
Lano's concert is Chapter NY's event which will help Cottey reach its goal. Lano is a member of Chapter NY and a 3rd generation P.E.O.
