Not only will quilting enthusiasts be able to see a wonderful exhibit of dozens of treasured, locally owned quilts during the 2012 Quilters’ Dozen Quilt Show this coming weekend, but quilt owners will have a chance to find out how much their family heirloom quilts are worth.
The Quilters Dozen’s annual PrairieFest Quilt Show will be held this coming Friday through Sunday, June 15-17 at Oswego’s Little White School Museum, 72 Polk Street (Jackson at Polk) just two blocks from historic downtown Oswego.
Quilt show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Certified quilt appraiser Sue Harmon will appraise quilts for their owners on a first come, first served basis on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appraisals have value for insurance reasons, for those interested in selling quilts, or to price quilts for shipping as gifts. Written appraisals will be $45 per quilt.
Quilts on display during this year’s PrairieFest Show will be loaned for exhibit by area families and individuals, with many heirloom and antique quilts included. In addition, quilts handmade by quilt club members will also be on exhibit. Most of the quilts on display during the show will feature hand quilting.

The Quilters Dozen is also conducting a raffle of a new hand-made quilt entitled “Memory Lane.” This year’s instant-heirloom quilt was created using reproduction feed sack material and other material with patterns commonly used for homemade quilts during the 1930s and 1940s. During that era, fabric livestock feed, sugar, and flour sacks sometimes featured patterned materials, which homemakers then recycled into clothing, quilts, and even sheets and pillowcases.
Quilt raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The lucky winning ticket will be drawn at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 17.
Raffle tickets are available from quilt club members, at the Oswegoland Park District’s Prairie Point, Civic, and Boulder Point centers, the Little White School Museum, or at the quilt show. Raffle proceeds will benefit the annual PrairieFest celebration and the Little White School Museum.
