Free Paper Shredding Event Set For Earth Day In Oswego
The Oswego Police Department will host the free drive-thru-style event at the Public Works Facility.
OSWEGO, IL — A free paper-shredding event is happening in Oswego on Earth Day, thanks to the police department.
Police are partnering with First National Bank of Omaha to offer the free event April 22 as a way to help prevent identity theft, officials said.
The event, held in drive-thru style, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until shred trucks are full, at the Public Works Facility, 100 Theodore Drive. Police encourage locals to come early if they don't want to miss out on the opportunity.

Documents that would benefit from shredding include charge receipts, copies of credit card applications or statements, physician statements and bank statements, police said.
Each car participating is allowed to shred three large file boxes full of papers, officials said. Drivers should enter through the driveway on the west side and stay in their cars. They'll be directed out of the lot after their boxes are emptied and returned to them.

"While you cannot fully prevent identity theft you can certainly minimize the possibility of becoming a victim," police spokesperson Cathy Nevara said in a news release. "By managing your personal information wisely, cautiously and with an awareness of the issue, you can help guard against Identity Theft."
Anyone with questions about the event is asked to contact the police department at 630-551-7300.
