Free Suicide Prevention Event Features Local, National Speakers

Speakers from the community and from national groups will be featured at upcoming Suicide Prevention Presentation.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Oswego Lions Club is hosting a Suicide Prevention Presentation on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Oswego Library - Montgomery Campus, 1111 Reading Drive in an effort to start the conversation about suicide prevention. The free community event will run 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and features guest speaker Joel Frieders, a second-term Yorkville Alderman and founder of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month Proclamation Project (NSPAMP).

Frieders is an advocate for suicide prevention, igniting the conversation on mental health in these communities by choosing to use his platform within local government to "raise the visibility of resources and break the silence of mental health stigma."

According to a release, suicide is the second leading cause of death amongst youth ages 12 to 24.
