Gun Powder Found Inside Suspicious Pipe

A pipe found along the banks of the Fox River was discovered to have gun powder, paper and plastic inside it.

Deputies from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of Route 25 and Boulder Hill Pass at around 11:14 a.m. Dec. 17 for a report of a suspicious item.

While cutting down brush, a worker from the Oswegoland Park District found a makeshift pipe bomb among debris from the river.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Unit responded to the scene and used a specialized robot to destroy the device. It is unknown how the pipe ended up along the river bank or how long it had been there.

There are currently no suspects in the case.

Police would like to remind residents that if they find an explosive device or suspicious object they should call 911 and stay away from it.
